Q: Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012.

What a lot of people don’t know about me anymore is that for a very long time, my goal in life was to be a music journalist.  I reviewed albums and concerts for the University of Texas newspaper for a while.  One year I saw over 130 bands.  I’ve traveled to other states to see concerts.  I’ve met new friends because of concerts.  Music was very important to me.  If I didn’t see live music on a regular basis, it started to feel like I couldn’t breathe.

But something happened over the last few years, I think since I got tinnitus from all the concerts and had an ear infection that blew out one of my ear drums.  Music is still a big part of my life, but live shows aren’t so much anymore.  This makes me sad sometimes.

That’s not the question though.  Who are my favorite bands or singers that everyone should listen to?

Well, the music currently cycling in my car is:

  • Foster the People – Torches
  • Florence + the Machine – Ceremonials
  • Adele – 21
  • Panic! at the Disco – Vices & Virtues
  • Matt Nathanson – Modern Love

Have some steampunk dancy goodness/horribly cheesy hilarity:

Or my current favorite song to listen to on my way to work*:

I generally like up-beat music that I can bop along to in the car or catchy things that get stuck in my head for eons.  My guiltiest of guilty pleasures is the Warblers Glee soundtrack.  Others I’m very fond of:

Metric

Jimmy Eat World

Damien Rice

Jason Mraz

Snow Patrol

The Decemberists

My Chemical Romance

Guy Forsyth

Jack’s Mannequin

So that's what I listen to, among many other things.  I’ve also seen John Mayer in concert nearly 20 times.  I can see you all judging me.  That’s okay.  We can just talk books.

* I'd just like to note that I had never watched the video to that song until just now and I am both horrified and laughing hysterically.
