Waiting on Wednesday: Above by Leah Bobet

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Breaking the Spine and serves to showcase those books we’re not so patiently waiting to arrive!

I know it's bad to judge a book by its cover, but I do. I think everyone does and if they say they don't, they're lying. I was going to feature City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare today for Waiting on Wednesday, but when I looked it up on GoodReads, I saw that cover - that... horribly bad romance novel-esque cover - and couldn't bring myself to put it on the website. So I've chosen something else I'm also excited about.

Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee's wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above—like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

But one terrifying night, an old enemy invades Safe with an army of shadows, and only Matthew, Ariel, and a few friends escape Above. As Matthew unravels the mystery of Safe's history and the shadows' attack, he realizes he must find a way to remake his home—not just for himself, but for Ariel, who needs him more than ever before.

I'm starting to think sepia is the new girl-in-a-pretty-dress book cover trend in YA. After reading Partials and Touch - which both have the sepia toned covers - this one shouldn't stand out so much. But then she has wings. Wings!

It also sounds as though the protag is male, and I need more of that in my life. Plus I'm always up for a good mutants versus bad guys story.
