#Fandom5: Five Fictional Pets I'd Like to Adopt

Welcome to my attempt at 5 Fandom Friday, where I try to contribute to a weekly meme but usually forget. This fun weekly postathon is hosted by The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick. If you’re interested in joining up, check out future posting topics here.

Two weeks in a row, guys! I might be getting the hang of this whole “meme participant” thing. But oh man, this week’s 5 Fandom Friday is another difficult one. The topic is Fictional Pets I’d Like to Adopt. I keep thinking of robots I want to “adopt”, which aren’t really pets (but but but… BAYMAX!). And yet that’s what I’m going to start with and see if I can come up with some actual animals as I go along.

K-9 from Doctor Who

So he’s a robot, but at least he’s in the shape of an animal, so that’s got to count for something, right? I would love to have a pet dog that could essentially take care of itself and didn’t need to be fed. Plus he could help me out in tight jams with the lasers he shoots from his nose. And it’s like having a link to the internet at all times with me.

abu.jpg

Abu from Aladdin

Ever since I saw Aladdin for the first time, I wanted a pet monkey. Abu is the best. He can get snacks and be sneaky when necessary. Plus he looks pretty spiffy in his little vest and fez.

Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender

I would never have to be stuck in traffic again!! I would just hope on Appa and fly to wherever my destination was. Plus he’s warm and cuddly in case I ever get stuck outside at night.

Gromit from Wallace & Gromit

If I were to have a real dog, I would want him to be a super smart inventor dog who could create things that would help me not have to do daily chores like washing the dishes. Gromit is the smartest of all smart animals and yet remains completely silent. We could compete on who has the best look of absolute disdain though…

Chewbacca from Star Wars

I don’t know how much he would appreciate being regulated to pet, but this was Fernando’s choice. It would be awesome to have a Wookie as my co-pilot in daily life, plus he would get the things off of tall shelves that even Fernando can’t reach on his own.

Runner Up: Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon

Apa bumped him from the main list because Apa can fly me around with a little more security than Toothless, but dude, a DRAGON! A FRIENDLY dragon too! Who doesn’t want a friendly dragon as a pet?

So those are my picks for fictional pets. Which ones would you love to have waiting for you at home each night? Are you more of a direwolf person or a dragon person?

Also don't forget that we're hosting a contest to win one of two boxes of Comic Con swag with books, t-shirts, posters, buttons and more. Make sure to enter here!

Trailer Park Friday: The All Superheroes All the Time Edition

No preamble. No waiting. You've probably already seen it a bajillion times, but here's the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's kind of creepy. We will be taunted about this movie until we can see it on May 1, 2015.

To balance the Marvel goodness out, lets toss in some DC action. As part of a NYCC wrapup video the comic book publisher released, they included a clip of the upcoming Justice League cartoon movie. While I dread the upcoming slaet of DC live action movies, I'm always game for an animated film. This one is called Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. It will be released on DVD and streaming sometime in early 2015.

There's also a bit about upcoming DC comics and LEGO Batman 3 in this video.

Speaking of LEGO Batman 3, I am so excited about Batman in space. WB Games released a short video talking to some of the voice talent behind the new game, including Stephen Amell (Mr. Arrow of course) and Conan O'Brien (yeah, really). It comes out November 11 and you should preorder it right now!

And finally the very first trailer for the new series version of the comic series Powers came out last week at NYCC as well. This is going to be a not-so-child-friendly comic book show that's a little more violent and "adult" than most of the comic book shows on the air. It stars Sharlto Copley (the dude from District 9) and will be streaming on the Playstation Network (which I didn't even realize was a thing...) starting in December.

So what do you think of the Age of Ultron trailer? Are you obsessed with the LEGO games like I am? Let me know in the comments!

Trailer Park Friday: Gotham Villians, Lego Batman, Sean Bean Will Probably Die & KORRA!

Of all the movies yet to come out this year, I think Guardians of the Galaxy is the one I'm most excited about. They released a new international trailer. Rocket Raccoon and those other guys will be in theatres starting August 2.

Of all the new fall television shows, I think I'm most excited about Gotham and Flash, so I was really excited to see this new teaser trailer for Gotham. Considering it's pre-Batman, the draw of this show for me will be the development of the villians. I hope the kid they got to play Selina Kyle can act because she totally looks the part.

Speaking of Batman, I just found out that a third Lego Batman game will be coming out soon. I love Lego games and I love Batman, so this will be part of my collection. There isn't an official release date yet, but it's supposed to come out this fall.

Here is a trailer for Legend. I'm predicting that Sean Bean will die at the end. It airs on TNT starting August 13.

This new Dreamworks animated film has an insanely generic name, which is sad because it looks potentially funny. It's called Home and it has Jim Parsons as an alien. It's comes out March 25, 2015.

And finally, there's no release date and no voice track on this footage for season 3 of Legend of Korra, but it gave me chills anyway. Looks like the next season will be full of action and plenty of all our favorite secondary characters.

What movie or television show are you most excited to see released? Link up trailers in the comments!

Trailer Park Friday: Animated Batman, Badass Scarlett Johansson & Book to Film Translations

Welcome back to Trailer Park Friday, the irregular feature here at Working for the Mandroid where I post a bunch of videos that have caught my eye. Some of them are trailers, some are clips from shows, some are animated shorts that are just awesome.

This is the 75th anniversary of the very first Batman comic, so DC is doing tons of Batman things this year. They recently had Bruce Timm, one of the guys behind the early 90s Batman: The Animated Series, create a two minute short in a similar style. Yay Batman!

Fernando is responsible for this next one. It's a Game of Thrones parody version of "Let It Go" from Frozen. Please note that there EPIC SPOILERS through the end of this last episode that aired last Saturday. Watch at your own risk.

When we went to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which is brilliantly awesome, by the way), there were a couple of cool trailers. One of them was a movie I'd heard about, but didn't really know much about. This is Lucy and I hope it's as surprising and badass as the trailer makes it seem. The film comes out August 8.

This is the trailer for another book that I probably won't ever read because it's just going to make me horribly despressed. This is Chloe Moritz in If I Go, which comes out August 22.

Tom Peretta's The Leftovers is a book I've heard quite a lot of vague praise towards, so toss in Damon Lindeloft (one of the crazy guys behind Lost) as a producer and this is a new HBO series that I'm interested in despite this trailer being vague. The Leftovers starts on HBO on August 30.

And finally the trailer that I was scared to watch. The Giver is one of the books that turned me into an obsessive book reader and it's one of those touchstones that I have watch too much nostalgia towards. Despite not being in black and white, the trailer looks like maybe they didn't screw this adaptation up completely. The Giver comes out on August 15.

And that's all from me this week. Hopefully we'll return next week with more trailers and videos. In the meantime, what videos have caught your interest recently? Post link in the comments!

Tiny Trailer Park Friday: Batman's Son and Muppets

Late last night I discovered that I was approved for an e-ARC, so all day I have had to use every last ounce of self-control to actually get work done instead of curling under a warm blanket with a brownie and my Kindle to dive into a world of Victorian zombies. This is a long way of saying that this week the trailer park is going to be a bit smaller than usual.

DC Animation movies make me happy in a way I don't know if the live action films will ever be able to do. One of their next ones is Batman & Son and it comes out sometime this spring.

Muppets make me happy. Muppets and lots of fun actors makes me even happier. Muppets Most Wanted comes out on March 21.

Did I mention we were going super short this week, so I can bask in the delight of Susan Dennard's next book? If you have any lovely videos that have caught your eye this week, share them in the comments! From here on out, I can be found in the blanket fort on my couch.

Trailer Park Friday: Justice League, Spider-Man, Godzilla, Sherlock (Of Course) & Many More

Happy Friday! Due to my unexpected absence the last few weeks, it's been awhile since the Trailer Park has stopped by for some video fun. To make up for it, have an extended set of videos covering some of the scifi/comic book/geeky stuff I've found online recently.

DC Animation is doing a lot of things that DC-the-film-company is having a hard time getting off the ground. The next straight to DVD movie is Justice League: War, which comes out on February 4. It's based off of the first graphic novel collection of the New 52 Justice League comics, which means everybody believes that Batman is not a real person and there is a lot of funny moments. Plus Wonder Woman is badass.

The newly released The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer looks like a videogame more than a movie, which is a little concerning, but trailers from the first movie had the same problem and it was pretty good. It comes out in May.

Syfy has this new show that's actually science fiction looking that starts on January 10 called Helix. It's by Ron Moore, that guy who rebooted Battlestar Gallatica, and it looks kind of creepy. Here's the first full trailer I've seen for it.

Tom Cruise is still trying to be a sci-fi action hero and this Edge of Tomorrow movie looks like Groundhog Day in robot suits. Not sure how I feel about this one. It comes out June 6.

I've never actually seen a Godzilla movie, but something tells me I might be seeing this one. It comes out May 16 and will hopefully have less shakey cam than Cloverfield.

Another scifi movie that looks pretty cool. This is Jupiter Ascending by the guys behind The Matrix. I know nothing about it other than Sean Bean is in it, which means he will probably die. That guy dies in everything. It comes out on July 18.

And finally, we end this week's Trailer Park Friday with the best trailer released in the last few weeks: Sherlock season 3! It comes back to UK television on January 1 and US television on January 4.

This one doesn't count because it's not a trailer. It is an incredible mashup of Sherlock and Doctor Who that someone put a LOT of time into.

And that's the true end of Trailer Park Friday for this week. Which movie/television series are you particularly excited to see? Does the Spider-Man trailer look a little too "videogame" for you? Share vids in the comments!
